Hi Liam First of all a massive thank you for your improv course it really had increased my confidence and skills. It has also inspired me to take next step and try go to harmonica Experience in Memphis next year to further develop my confidence and ability to play in front of others and with others. In that experience you get opportunity to play with full band and jam in different blues venues. I thought as prep would be useful to learn how to play with microphone and amp? I am going to do your course on this subject next. Also if that is good idea please could give recommendation for microphone for someone like me with small hands? What’s good portable amp option to go with it? I rather pay some monies and have ones that last and be good enough for a few years rather buy cheap ones that need replace in few months. Any suggestions be really appreciated by you and rest of the group. Liam just watching first part of your course and doing some research the Bulletini seems like a fantastic mic and perfect for my small hands what you think? Final question which you rate more the bulletini or silverfish silver bullet mini? Thinking of getting harp train 10 is this good choice? If so what leads do need get and what type of amp ? All help appreciated many thanks Paula

Hi Liam and Everyone I have three questions: 1. A harp buddy has recommended the harmonica experience in USA that’s a 5 day workshop with harp coaches and 25-30 people from around the world. Looks awesome! Has anyone done it and was it amazing? Did improve your playing and confidence? 2. Liam can you do same thing in UK it be awesome! Or know of anyone who does similar? 3. I loved your improv course was brilliant. I now like build on this and get more confident playing in front of others, with others etc. What advice can give for building up confidence of playing in front of others and with others? Other than just do it 😁😁😁 Be great to not only hear from Liam but everyone else! Really appreciate your replies!

I just read the summery of this thanks to your recommendation in module 4 of improv course. What a brilliant study and fascinating read. Given the link between playing ability and mental representation of the instrument my question is this something, like most things in life, you can practice and get better at with time and effort? Or something you can do or not do. I am aware I do it to a degree but like to work at doing it much more and be interested in your view and experience if this is something you can work on to get better at? If so any top tips for how?

Hi Liam Hope I am not driving you mad asking you questions about your amazing improv course. I just want learn as much as I can I have and am learning the full range of green , amber and red notes across all octaves. However in your study notes it says that if playing C harp green notes are the chord tones and playing over dominant seventh chords G7, C7 and D7 which are the I, IV and V chords of 12 bars. Great get this so far It then goes to say these chord tones are made up of four notes , the root, 3rd , 5th and flattened 7 th of each scale. So for I chord G7 that would be G,B,D,F and so on. I get why the G is the root and I have memorised each of these chord tones for each of the three chords . However I want to be able to work out myself and understand the theory . So sorry for the stupid question but why is B the 3rd, D the 5 th and F the flattened 7 ?? I think it’s something to do with counting degrees of separation along scale starting from the G is that right? Can you explain to me so I can always be able work out it and not just know through memorising them

Hi Liam I am loving your improv course getting so much from it and working through really slowly to try get max from learning. Apols if what I am about to ask is covered in later module. When using combination of green, amber and red notes for each chord should you as chord change over 12 bar starts or finish try to start or finish on root note eg, 2 draw on I chord, 4 blow on IV and 4 draw on V or their equipment up and down scale? Or not matter as long as green note you start or finish on? Or as there no fixed rules mixture of both approaches? If do try finish with root note why does it feel so right to often finish 12 bar not on 2 draw but one draw Is because green note? Hope these not stupid questions just mad keen to learn . Thanks to your course I am feeling for first time far more confident to have go at improv and really enjoying it thanks so much . I am going Cornwall for 2 weeks hol on Thurs so keen to do load more practice on beach watching sea! So look forward to your answer! many thanks Paula

Hi Liam Firstly a big thank you for tagging my article in harmonica world on social media I really appreciate it. As you know I am getting a lot from your courses and loving slowly working through your improv course. I was surprised that 4 half step bend was a red note given how expressive it is and how often it used in blues. I been thinking about it and wanted check if my understanding fitted with what you thought? I think you called it red note as it not a green note as if used all time as green notes can be, it would sound too much and not safe to play in that way like a green note . Yet at same time it’s not an amber note as amber notes are great for interest value but better to be used as a linking note , don’t sound as good when focusing on them . Therefore making it red note as it can be super interesting in a mixture of green and amber notes when not over played but can be a focused on in solo if not overplayed. Have I got that right? If not please let me know. Also , apologies if this is covered in later modules, is any guidance in relation to green, amber and red notes and/or chord p for when it’s most effective to use techniques like vibrato, warbling, double stops etc to add expression and interest? Thanks again loving being a member and getting tons from it! Have fab weekend!

Hi Liam I am loving the course and even working on it on my birthday today! I am going through it very slowly in between lessons with my tutor and because I want take it all in I can already feel my confidence growing with this fab course! If this question is answered further in course my apols. At moment covering all different scales you can use and which sections fit well with each chord. I know there no hard and fast Rules however can use mix and match of all notes in each of scales when doing improv over 12 bars or is better to stick to one particular scale when doing it? many thanks Paula

hi Liam Great to see you at Manchester gig you and the band were brilliant. I have been going through your improv course very slowly, in between my lessons, as wanted to take it all in, it’s a brilliant course. It’s really helped refresh me about 12 bar structure and learnt about Arpeggios. I now on module 2 were you going onto scales. You say all these scales will work over 7 th chord? Sorry if didn’t connect dots enough from module one but please could you explain this statement more? What does it mean? How relate to I, IV and V chord in 12 bars? Sorry if dumb question just I really want make sure I understand and learn second question when you are soloing and using different notes and note lengths and techniques how still pick up on chord changes in 12 bars structure? many thanks for this brilliant website and all your help Paula

Split Octaves Hi Liam hope you and the family are happy and well . I like to dip in and out of your course material as I need to and to compliment my lessons with my tutor which works really well. In past I remember dipping into one of courses and covering material on split octaves. I wanted to revisit this for new song working on particularly split octaves that involve covering three holes rather than two. I can’t find what I previously had covered as you not got so many great courses on here . Please could advise which course, section etc covers this? many thanks Paula

Hi Everyone really enjoying being a member. Sorry if this a dumb question. I have started playing the jam tracks as I want to add more creativity to my practice time. On Liam notes is traditional 12 bar structure with chord changes from I, IV and V. My question is are the rules on what set of notes is within each of these chords? So if playing one chord on C must contain notes 2 draw, etc can’t contain a 9 blow. Like I say I apologise i this really dumb question however new to jamming. Is this covered in any of the courses? If so where, think bit in music theory but might have missed answer to this if so please let me know. Thanks everyone appreciate any answers many thanks Paula
