Classic Blues Songs You Can Play on F (or lo F) Harmonica: Full Guide

An F harmonica is one of the highest in the range, so it gives a very punchy, bright sound. This makes it great for cutting through the band. It has been used many times over the years to this effect in blues songs.

This article lists great blues songs that were recorded using either a key of F harp or a key of low F harmonica.

Make sure to check out the following guides to learn about other keys:

Using a Key of F harmonica for Blues Music

Most blues is played in 2nd position (cross harp). On an F harmonica, this means the key of C. If this sounds confusing, check out my free Guide to Harmonica Positions.

Since 2nd position is the default, I will indicate in the table below only when the song is played in something other than 2nd position. I will also indicate if the original song was played on a low F harmonica (you can still play it on a "normal" F, you will just sound an octave higher).

Hand gripping two harmonicas, both with black combs. The top harmonica has an 'F' sticker. The bottom harmonica has an 'LF' sticker. Blurred background of colourful posters.
Both F and low F harmonicas can be used to play blues songs.
