Love Me Tender | Beginner Harmonica Lesson & Tabs | Elvis Presley

Updated: Aug 12

Hello! In today's free harmonica lesson I'll teach you to play 'Love Me Tender' by Elvis Presley on harmonica. Simply follow the harp tabs on-screen to play along to the song.

Unlike the raw, powerful blues we often associate with the harmonica, this song showcases the instrument's gentle, melodic side. Released in 1956, "Love Me Tender" is a beautiful ballad that became one of Elvis's signature hits and its simple melody is perfect for anyone looking to learn how to play a song on harmonica with emotion and subtlety

Whereas blues songs are often played in second position (cross harp) to get gritty bending sounds, "Love Me Tender" is a perfect example of playing in first position (straight harp). This style (playing in the key intended when the harmonica was made) allows you to focus on single notes and smooth, expressive phrasing without the need for complex bends. It's an excellent way to practice tone, breath control, and playing a melody exactly as it's written.

In the video lesson which follows below, you can play along with the tabs on the screen. Positive numbers mean blow (exhale) and negative numbers mean draw (inhale). You will need a key of C harmonica to play along with the video.
