Hello! This article is all about selecting the right harmonica key for playing classic blues songs. If you study the blues, you'll quickly realise that some harmonica keys are used a lot more than others. The keys of A, D and C are very common, as in the key of Bb, whereas some others are barely used at all. It's important to know which key of harmonica you will need to play a specific blues song, so I've compiled a list of some of the best blues songs ever recorded, listed by the key of harmonica used on the original record.
You’ll find over 400 blues songs listed below, including tracks from many of the big-hitting Chicago blues harp guys like Little Walter and Big Walter Horton, country blues legends like Sonny Terry and DeFord Bailey, plus some of my own personal favourite modern players such as Paul deLay, Carlos del Junco and Jason Ricci.
This guide focuses specifically on authentic blues songs so you can find a great song to learn, whatever key of blues harp you have to hand.
A Quick Note on Positions
Most blues is played in 2nd position (cross harp). I have noted in the tables below when the song is played in a different position.

Have a suggestion or correction?
I have included information to the best of my knowledge about many of the world's most-loved blues songs, but no list can be truly complete. If you have a suggestion to add to the list - or you think I've made a mistake - please get in touch and let me know.
