In today's free harmonica lesson I will teach you to play the folk song and children's nursery rhyme Yankee Doodle on diatonic harmonica in the key of C.
On harmonica, Yankee Doodle is a great piece to learn because of its lively, straightforward melody. It’s perfect for practicing clean single notes and building speed, all while playing a tune that just about everyone will recognise right away.
Did you know?
The word "doodle" was originally slang for a fool or simpleton, and the famous line about "sticking a feather in his cap and calling it macaroni" was a joke about fashionable young men in Europe at the time. What started as an insult ended up as a patriotic anthem which is still taught to schoolchildren today.
